PIXIA

In the time-pressured age we live in, it is difficult to carve out large periods of time to create artwork.

I have found this type of uber-small-scale durational project useful to keep things flowing.

For this durational set of miniatures ‘Pixia’ — I worked on a 32×32 pixel canvas whilst responding to pieces of complex music.

The music is intricate and vital and my tools for reacting highly restrictive.

This is a daily practice and an excercise in active listening. I must resist the urge to judge the result of each piece. The aim here is to cultivate honesty and acceptance when creating.

By the end, there will be dozens of these tiny canvases, carrying the immediate responses that the music evoked through colours and gesture limited by the tiny canvas.

Limitations: 32×32 pixels. Work only as long as the duration of the music. Do not change the result once the music has finished.
